Main Taxes in the State of Oklahoma

Income Tax:

Oklahoma applies a progressive personal income tax; for 2024–2025 rates range from 0.25% to 4.75%. Tax applies to wages, business income, investments, dividends, interest, and rental income.

Sales Tax:

The base sales tax rate in Oklahoma is 4.5%, with municipal and county surtaxes added. Depending on the region, the total rate can reach up to 11.5%, one of the highest in the U.S. Sales tax applies to most goods and certain services, including equipment rentals, telecommunications, hotel stays, and some professional services.

Our company provides services for obtaining a Sales Tax Certificate, setting up tax collection, preparing and filing Sales and Use Tax Returns, and advising on economic nexus, marketplace sales, and interstate commerce.

Property Tax:

Property tax in Oklahoma is levied at the county and school district level. The average effective rate is about 0.83% of market value, providing a moderate burden. Residential and commercial property are assessed annually, and rates may change depending on local government decisions.

Business Taxes:

Oklahoma levies Corporate Income Tax (CIT) for C corporations at 4.0% of taxable income. LLCs and S-corps use pass-through taxation: profits are passed to owners and taxed as personal income.

In addition to CIT, Oklahoma levies a Franchise Tax — an annual tax on corporations calculated based on capital, with a minimum of $25.

All corporations and LLCs in Oklahoma must file an Annual Certificate (similar to an Annual Report) with the Oklahoma Secretary of State. The deadline is annually on the company’s registration date. Late filing results in penalties and possible administrative dissolution.

Our company provides services for preparing Annual Certificates, calculating and filing Corporate Income Tax and Franchise Tax, registering businesses, and choosing optimal tax structures.

Excise Taxes:

Oklahoma levies excise taxes on alcohol, tobacco, gasoline, diesel fuel, medical and recreational marijuana, car rentals, and other goods and services.

Favorable Tax Conditions in Oklahoma:

Oklahoma offers moderate personal and corporate tax rates, along with one of the lowest property tax rates in the country. Franchise Tax is lower than in many other states. The state also provides tax incentives for manufacturing, research and development, and investments in rural and economically disadvantaged areas.

Taxes in Oklahoma Compared to Other States:

Personal income tax is lower than in most progressive states (e.g., California and New York). Sales Tax is among the highest when local surtaxes are included, while Franchise Tax exists but is relatively low. Property tax is one of the lowest in the country, and there is no inheritance or gift tax. The flat Corporate Income Tax rate of 4% is competitive compared to other states.
